Getting started

How do I start?

On the welcome screen, choose Get started to set up your household, or Explore an example household to try Jo, Sam and Leo’s example first. For your own household, enter a balance, photograph a letter or receipt, or type a decision. You don’t need to connect a bank.

How do I invite someone to my household?

On the Needs screen, tap Invite. They accept on their iPhone, signed in to their own iCloud. You share plans and decisions; every adult keeps their own accounts private.

Can I leave the example household?

Yes. The example is only there to look around. Open the example menu at the top of Needs and choose Leave the example to set up your own household. The example is never mixed with your data.

Membership

How do I buy or restore the membership?

Open Settings → Membership in your own household. Choose monthly or yearly, or restore a purchase made with the same Apple Account. The App Store shows the price before purchase. Your iPhone shares the confirmed coverage period through your household’s iCloud data; let it sync so the other adults receive the status. The example household offers setup instead of a purchase.

How do I cancel?

In your iPhone’s Settings, tap your name → Subscriptions → Kettle Money, or use Manage subscription in Kettle Money’s Settings. Cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the period. Deleting Kettle Money or your Kettle Money data doesn’t cancel a subscription.

Why isn’t Family Sharing used?

Kettle Money’s household can differ from your Apple Family Sharing group. Membership is shared with the invited adults through the household’s iCloud data during its confirmed coverage period. They don’t need separate subscriptions for that coverage.

How do I ask for a refund?

Purchases are made with Apple, so refunds go through Apple: visit reportaproblem.apple.com or contact Apple Support.

Your data

How do I export or delete my data?

Open Household Settings → Your data. Export gives you JSON, CSV and your original files. Leave a shared household before deleting; the app explains this step. Delete erases local financial data and requests private iCloud cleanup and any bank withdrawal. Minimal protected retry records remain while those steps are pending. The app shows outstanding steps and lets you retry. Other adults keep the shared household’s history. Stop using Kettle Money on other devices first, because an active device can upload data again. Exported files remain under your control. Deletion does not cancel a subscription.

Can I move my history from another app?

Yes. Export CSV from YNAB, Monarch, Copilot, Goodbudget or Rocket Money, then in Kettle Money open Money → Switch from another app. You can also import a CSV or OFX bank statement with Import a statement.

What if I lose my iPhone?

If private iCloud backup is enabled and available, Kettle Money saves changed private accounts, receipts, letters, orders and prices once a day. The copy also includes a household that has never been shared and has only you as its adult. Sign in to the same iCloud on a replacement iPhone to check for a copy, or open Settings → Private iCloud backup. Only successfully saved data can be recovered. Other adults keep a shared household’s plans and decisions in iCloud. A bank connection may need fresh consent after a reinstall.

Do you see my data?

Your household ledger is stored on your iPhone and in your own iCloud, rather than a developer-operated household store. If European bank connections become available and you choose one, bank information passes through the relay and limited connection and security metadata is retained as described in the privacy policy. Please do not email statements; we do not need them to help.

Banks and accounts

Can I connect my bank?

Read-only connections through Apple Wallet and European banks are in preparation. Until then, import CSV or OFX statements or type your balances. Kettle Money never moves money.

What if a bank withdrawal is still pending?

For a European bank connection, open Kettle Money again to retry, or use the retry shown in Settings after deletion. Keep the app installed while withdrawal is pending, or withdraw consent in your bank’s app. If the connection cannot be used after a reinstall or verification reset, connect again and withdraw the old consent at the bank. A connection expiring is not confirmation of an earlier withdrawal. Removing Kettle Money does not itself withdraw bank consent.

Why doesn’t my balance match my bank?

Safe to spend isn’t your balance: it’s what’s left after bills, plans and the unspent part of each budget until your next pay-in. Money → Until the next pay-in shows how it moves, day by day.
