Dear you,

You don't know us, and we will never know you. That is not a limitation of this app — it is the whole design. No account, no cloud of ours, nobody reading over your shoulder. Write one honest sentence to whoever you'll be tonight, and forget it. The forgetting is the part that works.

The whole idea

Stoicism was never a diary. It survives as mail.

Seneca wrote letters to a friend. Marcus wrote notes to himself. Lettera returns the practice to its true form — three moves, and then the quiet miracle of forgetting.

Write

One honest sentence to whoever you'll be tonight. A gentle question helps you begin; a blank page never has to.

Seal

Press and hold until the wax sets — a haptic crescendo under your thumb. Sealed letters cannot be edited. Honesty, enforced by wax.

Receive

It comes back on its day — in your own hand, from someone who knew exactly what today felt like. Postmarks, never streaks.

The storm drawer

For the 2 a.m. that hasn't come yet.

On a calm day, write to the you inside anger, dread, grief. When the hard hour arrives, your own voice answers the door — with the matched ancient beneath it. No AI. The wisest person about your storm is you, three weeks ago.

From you · written on a very good day

Breathe. You are not the wave, you are the water. Nothing said in that room is yours to carry home. Wait one hour before you answer anything.

The greatest remedy for anger is delay.Seneca · On Anger, II.29

The ancients

You are Lucilius now.

Season One is a real correspondence course — forty short letters from Seneca, Marcus Aurelius and Epictetus, rendered from public-domain translations and sourced line by line. It advances on your days, not the calendar's: pause a month, and the next letter simply waits. When you finish, it begins again — the way Seneca asked: read them, and then read them again.

Not only to yourself

A letter your daughter opens on her eighteenth.

Write to someone you love, choose the morning they should read it, and hand it over sealed. Their Lettera keeps it closed until the day — then it opens in your wax, in your hand. No account on either side and no Lettera server in the middle; the sharing service you choose carries the file. Just a letter, carried across years the way letters always were.

Dear Anna,

Happy eighteenth. I wrote this on an ordinary Thursday when you were four and asleep on my shoulder, because I wanted you to hear it in my own words on this exact morning: you are loved, and you were always going to be enough.

The promise

Private by architecture, not by policy.

Lettera operates no server that receives your letters. They live in one file on your device and, only if you enable it, a private iCloud mirror under your Apple account. They otherwise leave your care only when you export or share them.

  • No account. Open the app and write.
  • No analytics, no tracking, no ads.
  • No cloud we operate. No cloud AI; on-device first-line help only when you ask.
  • No streaks. Nothing breaks when you rest.
  • Export when you choose; erase the device and private iCloud copy together.
  • Arrival alerts never show the letter.
